Teva Adventure

Summer 2005 Programs
Destination: The Rockies & Alaska

---GENERAL INFORMATION---

Teva Adventure and NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) are teaming up to offer exciting, challenging outdoor kosher, Shomer Shabbat programs again this summer.

Join one of our life-changing programs in the Rockies or Alaska for teens to develop practical knowledge & techniques for both outdoor expeditions and a Jewish approach to living in nature with nature.

Gavi, said about our 2003 program in Alaska: "This was one of the most incredible summers I have ever had. The things that I saw and learned on this course will stay with me forever. The people who instructed the course were incredible in every respect. And so were the people who put together the whole course. It was a crazy success!"

Sarah Rivka, from our 2004 Rocky Mountain program described her favorite day as, "I think that the best part of the trip was definitely the rock climbing. At the beginning of this trip I was so nervous about going rock climbing because of the height, but once I got into the harness I was really excited. The second day of rock climbing was really fun, the climbs were more challenging and there were a bunch of different ways to go. This whole trip was sooooo much fun but I think that this was the best. Thanks for a really amazing time!"

The programs uniquely combine NOLS' 40 years of experiential outdoor instruction and Teva Adventure's vision of synthesizing the outdoors and Judaism. The programs provide fully certified professional instructors and a combined Jewish outdoor curriculum that emphasizes safety while focusing on the development of leadership, teamwork and outdoor skills. Each program will feature kosher food, Shabbat observance, and optional college credit for certain programs.

Teva Adventure and NOLS - a fusion of nature, the mountains, learning and Jewish discovery.

Expect to be challenged. Expect to grow.

This program begins at the NOLS branch just outside of Anchorage on a beautiful converted farm. The program includes: a 22 day wildernss expereince, community service, a Shabbat with the Anchorage Jewish community and touring.

A unique part of this course is the knowledge and skills you will gain to allow you to live a full Jewish life in the outdoors, from how to cook and bake "wilderness challahs" to how to put up on a eruv (maybe even on a glacier!) and so muc more. The inspring views that will be the backdrop to our tefillot (prayers) will stay with you always.

After your journey, you will return to the NOLS Alaska branch and we join an exciting community service project. For the following Shabbat we will visit the Chabad house and Jewish coomuity in Anchorage where we may meet visitors from around the globe who have come to marvel at Alaka's wonders. After Shabbat, which as you will come to learn is Sunday in Alaska, we will head north to see more of what Alaska has to offer.

The course emphasizes outdoor challenges which focus on team-work, confidence-building and the development of leadership skills while underscoring safety. Gain skills that will help you practice Judaism wherever you are- whether on a mountain or in Nepal. Meet other great teens who share your interest in outdoor adventure.

This is a very special opportunity. Don't miss what will be an unforgettable summer adventure. University credit is available for this course for those entering senior year and high school graduates.
